Ice Dam Removal Tip

Ice dams can cause a lot of damage to your home. When snow melts on your roof during the day it runs down to the gutters and then freezes in the gutters. When the water starts to pool in the gutters and builds up, it creates an ice dam. The water or ice can back up into your attic and cause water problems. One solution is to use ice melt socks. You can buy these or make them yourself by cutting off the sock portion of some panty hose. Fill each sock with 2-3 pounds of ice melt and tie it closed.  Space the socks every five to six feet. Place the socks perpendicular to the gutter line hanging a few inches over the gutter. The socks create a channel for the water to flow off the roof.
